As with all good sites problems occur from time to time. Great that we are all up and running again and that new features are on the way. Remember it is a free site and i for one am grateful that we have such a site to participate on.6 points -
Yes, i'm afraid the CD is all the poorer without Brians colourful race calls. The present callers are woeful. So many negatives in the CD now, no 747 at Palmy anymore, stupid plastic rail at Fonganui obstructing the view, a track surface thats lost the confidence of a portion of the trainers, and race callers that implor you to reach for the mute button. Very sad really.3 points

Exactly. Lady Shambi was another the North unfortunately lost. The Walsh kennels are nowhere near the force they were, why I don't know. As you say Reilly, you can't trust thedogs website for updated info. A big sign of depth in an area is the strength of the fields in the lower grades and the fields in the c0 races in the North lately have been poor in my opinion. I was a big fan of the Craik kennels but they aren't as strong as they were, that Prairie dog is one of the few coming through. The strength in each area varies but since I started following dogs 15 years ago, the South have always been the strongest. Most of that long list of trainers I listed were around then and training at a similar level but as Ray Adcock said in his interview, good trainers need good dogs. It's hard to make the slow ones go fast.2 points -
Hi Jess, We are on the same page. We bred a couple of "smalls" from well bred commercial good sized mares and they now attend pony club, one was a filly and she is now a lovely wee mare, enjoying her life and making a child happy.2 points

why do you say no chance dustydreamnz? surely under different management he would be welcome back? Mark rozanowski has nothing n him, yes he knows his dogs but he sounds terrible and brian martin has lengths on him2 points

I agree that the North has some top dogs at the moment but it's pretty thin depth. Blitzing Mayhem, Bright Star etc. Even former topliners like Double Magic and Jannik are past their best. Schofield has some nice young dogs. I think Ahern/Freeman/Roberts in the CD makes it stronger than ever. In the South it's like George Simon saying, 'Dunno where to look'. Fahey, Cleeve, Roberts, McInerney, Blackburn, Grant, Adcock, Weir, Bradshaw, Dann, Stapleton, Dunn, Casey/Fagan, Hart/Taylor, Cairns, Lee....2 points -
Hi Trakdap - yep I realise expanded the scope of your original post ... sorry if I subverted your thread! I was just thinking about what I've seen of pressure-cooker yearling preps and how I enjoy - as one who sends nothing to yearling sales these days - to see mine grow up in 4-5 acre paddocks. Like you - I hard-feed through-out - although pasture is their main source of nutrition when not in work. But they grow at their own natural rate - are not rugged until after they're broken in (ie stabled) - and are not worked early (including walkers) if they're late maturing types. I do know what you mean about types. I was looking at one of my mares in the paddock the other day just before she returned to the racing stable. Along wandered an old sage (very experienced and expert horseman) who commented on what a lovely old fashioned type of mare she is. She is over 16.2hh - classic looking staying mare - with a lovely head. I think you'd approve of her Trakdap. Funny thing is - I bred her dam (a miler) to a sprinting stallion - and lo & behold - a stayer!! One of the many things I love about breeding ... you never know. You just never know ... Kind regards Jess2 points

Size. One of the most over-rated qualities of the thoroughbred yearling? And anyway - how good is it for yearlings to be pumped full of hard feed - stabled 24/7 and spend hours on a walker all in the name of looking impressive in the ring at karaka? ... just saying ....2 points

Fireworks Display Auckland Racing Club

Don't want to sound like a party pooper but isn't having a fireworks display abit strange for our industry as many of us want them banned due to the carnage we see to our animals each year?On the plus side what a great nights racing and brilliant coverage after race with Trackside and the drone2 points -

I hear ya Trakd.- I have a slightly smaller than ave filly myself currently - smaller than both parents - with no apparent environmental reason for her height ... (about 15.1 or 15.2hh I guess ...) - very neatly put together tho' - we shall see.. And yes - given the choice and a magic wand - I'd have her a bit bigger. Your post amused me tho' as from time to time I threaten her with pony club if she doesn't get it together on the track .. (she is unraced so far) I tell you this tho' - she'd be one of the best bred, prettiest pony clubbers at the grounds!! Still hoping it doesn't come to that but like you, a good home for my cast-offs/retirees is impt to me ... J1 point

Its just another dog of the bunny, hence why it got beaten in the heats, it does have an engine but will get beaten Butcha is ten times better as georga, same with carter, georga couldnt get close to them, logic is another, thrilling edge would also be considered better (even though he is a sprinter), thrilling evie is looking like the real deal over distance1 point -

Winning a premiership starts by having good dogs. It can also be very heavily aided by the level of competition which they race against. Is it safe to say the premier track in the North is Manukau, the CD is Hatrick and the South is Addington? How many "guests" have gone to Manukau and beat the home team in group races? How many "guests" have gone to Addington and done the same? (I've intentionally not left much space between the above questions for names/races) How many "guests" have gone to Hatrick and the title has left the CD region? (notably ample room for names/races below)1 point -

Because the best dog of his in that series nearly knuckled over in the heats and came out and ran the fastest time at Manukau since Blitzing Mayhem / Lady Shambi?? Also Thrilling Georga not in Walsh's top 5 dogs ? Oh puhlease. Would give carter windburn over 520, and probably Butcha the way he's going lately! What 5 are better than her alltheway?1 point -

Nearly half the dogs under Walsh's name on thedogs website are retired I think. Now go look behind the gates of Aherns team and boy do they have some beautifully bred pups. Definitely a 'premiership' winning team IMO.1 point -

Depth? Have a look behind the gates (figuratively speaking) of the Walsh kennels. Just because you don't see them race two or three times a week, doesn't mean they are not there.1 point -

Currently, Southern dogs by a small margin. (although didn't Blitzing Mayhem recently show them how it's done?). Northern dogs slightly behind (it's not the dogs fault they have fewer high grade meets). CD a distant third. (in many cases when a dog is shifted from the CD to the North, it drops at least a grade or two before it gets a win). Just my opinion.1 point -
Its hard to judge on the tv, from where I was sitting there seemed to be a lot of nice fillys selling well.1 point

I like using the like function but the like function is not functioning at this time and I don't like that - but I like your post Hesi!1 point -
Sometimes it takes 20-30 seconds to load a page, and it's not my Internet on my phone because I frequent a few other forums and they load within 2 seconds. I don't know if it has anything to do with that horse picture at the top but it is extremely frustrating, along with new content not working and having to find where I last visited the thread ( my 2 fav features of the old version, aswell as the speed that it used to load ) None the less I love racecafe and hope the speed picks up soon ! Keep up the good work.1 point

This horse was driven like they wanted to win at it's next start and did so. Then yesterday was heavily backed and won again. I'm convinced the horse could have won the race that drew it to my attention. She ran second but wasn't asked for an effort till the victory was beyond her then made up huge ground on the winner and was traveling better than that horse at the finish. Winning two out of her three starts since then tells a story. Must admit to feeling a level of frustration in the fact "heavily backed" now often takes precedence over form and ability. You can spend hours going over replays and comparing times etc but how does Joe Punter know the connections are unloading on the horse especially when that is hidden from view until moments before the start of the race. It can have a "deception" feel about it.1 point -

What great TV !!! Those beautiful thoroughbreds going through the ring at Karaka ! Cubes has bought a few over the years...though more in the Select Sale to be honest . Mrs Cubes doesn't let Cubes go too crazy on the purchasing department. Mrs Cubes has more shoes than Imelda Marcos but does not let Cubes buy whatever we want !!! Anywhooo.... We hope the buyers of today enjoy their yearling now 'cause when they are a 4yo and in their seventeenth start and running in a Maiden at Taupo in the winter things might not seem so joyous....1 point

Ivan The Terrible, it certainly was, but then it evolved into other people who also have an excellent record choosing yearlings so I then got involved. Personally I couldn't see any advantage in publicly taking sides with either Paul or David on this forum hence the direction I took although I do have an opinion on who is the better judge.1 point

And the Showcasing roll continues...... Well done to all concerned, especially Haunui and the people who put their hard earned cash up to take a share in the horse when he was first syndicated. I personally know a couple of them and they are not from the big league, so it is great. Equally well, congratulations to the shareholders of Per Incanto [similar people] with your third placing. However, I repeat that I don't believe that the stake money from the Karaka Million should count in the Two Year Old Leading Sires List as it is a grossly inflated restricted Sweepstakes Race which distorts everything. Having said that, I have every confidence that both Showcasing and Per Incanto will just about fight out the title anyway, with or without the sweepstake money.1 point

Since I can't read, I looked in between the lines and placed $15W & $75P fixed on Grader Jack. Now that the benchmark is set for fines, I should be able to afford just about anything the JCA could impose on me to pay. Unless the RIU simply didn't believe my initial lie, repeat the same question and get my honest answer that I falsified information the second time around, then not bother to charge or reprimand me or the club which I was officially representing. Then I'd have enough cash to fill the petrol tank and by a box of beer to celebrate my cunningness as long as Racecafe poster don't pick on me. Can I have everyone's promise you'll be nice to me? I don't like feeling stink.1 point -
