Cambridge meeting abandoned

The Cambridge - Te Awamutu HRC race meeting next Tuesday 3 August 2010, has been abandoned due to insufficient nominations.

Is this a sign of the times?? Or merely not enough horses to cater for meetings tonight, tomorrow night and next Tuesday?

One 3yo nominated.... No one wants to win a $3k race with a new 3yo in the first week of the season. Suddenly you have lost 1/3 of the horse pool. who want 3yo 1 win horse with $1800 in the bank??

Maybe

You are correct in assuming that Garrick, but there were only 54 horses in total nominated. There are a heap of 4, 5 and 6yos that perhaps could be racing?

The Answer, I think is simple.

It's like any other business, wait 3 days and race for far larger stakes at Auckland.
Cambridge, and alot of other tracks are now country tracks, like it or lump it. The sooner the industry accepts it the better. We now need to change to a fairer way of handicapping, and quickly (ie Metro/Country wins)
Metro Tracks should be Addington, Auckland and perhaps Invercargill. Minimum stakes at these 3 tracks should be $10k and if you cant afford to pay that, race at a country track and set your own stake levels to suit your budget.

Why not have prize-money won as a larger component in handicapping?

I think its a sign of Cambridge racing. there fields are getting terrible and the numbers are lacking big time.

to the degree where i wouldnt even bother having a bet there.

poor stakes are an obvious issue though.

Gidday Bruce..Last August all Trot Tuesday Licences were 'aborted' and given to Manukau Greyhounds..which easily filled fields.

Perhaps history should have repeated...

Cheers,Wingy.

All they needed to do was leave nominations open 24 hrs (like plenty of other clubs do) and announce at the Cambridge meeting on Thursday night that they were doing so.

Plenty of those Thursday ponies would have backed up on the Tuesday as there's nothing at Cambridge for another 3 weeks ....

Once again proving that all the numbers are still in the south, soon you'll be packing up your pokie machines and bringing them south, lol. We can still get a reasonable card for a Tuesday meeting.
