Forum Help : Using Emoticons

"Emoticons" are combinations of characters which are used in messages to represent different faces or images and thereby different moods. The term "emoticon" is a fusion of the words emotion and icon.

For example
:)  represents a smiley face
:(  represents a sad face

Traditionally, newsgroup users have used emoticons to help clarify their intent. For example, a smiley face may help make it obvious that you're joking. Basically, their function is to replace some of the body language which is lost in written conversation.

The Race Cafe forums automatically convert emoticon characters into the graphics below. To add an emoticon to your message, simply type the characters which correspond to the graphic you'd like. There must be a space before and after the characters. Note that you'll have to post (or preview) your message to see the graphic.

For example, typing:  I'm only joking :)
will be displayed as:  I'm only joking :)
